About

Aston Martin DB9

This is the successor to the DB7 and while it manages to be a similarly attractive GT, it is a world apart in quality, integrity and effectiveness of execution. Whereas the DB7 was based upon the old Jag XJS(!), the DB9 has a hi-tech bonded aluminium chassis which enables it to run the best of the ultimative supercars close on performance and yet offer a degree of comfort than nothing with this sort of dynamic ability can touch.

A great deal of effort has clearly gone into the design and execution of the interior. Driving position is spot on and there are lots of delightful details - like a glass start button. You will look in vain for any Ford switchgear. There are rear seats, and they're larger than those in the DB7, but that's not saying much. Use them only occasionally for adults, more often for kids. Those in the front are extremely well catered for with more room than previously.

Very well appointed and the goodies are excecuted with class and craftmanship. The navigation screen rises from the dash only when needed and hides behind a laser cut panel so as not to interrupt the grain of the wood.

The 6.0-litre V12 is a development of that found in the Vanquish with characteristics specifically honed for its new home, so its got a bit less power and a bit more torque. Mated to a superb paddleshift auto transmission it is wonderful.
